Joint Pain & Arthritis

What is Arthritis?

Arthritis is an inflammation of a joint and causes disability and discomfort in many different people across the world. Unfortunately, not all cases of arthritis are the same as there are over 100 different forms of it. Each of these affects at least one joint in the body and can lead to loss of movement, swelling or general pain. People will often mistake arthritis as a disease that only targets the elderly, however its many different forms can affect anyone at any stage in their life.

The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis, affecting joints in the body with pain and sometimes stiffness. It is also referred to as degenerative joint disease when the cartilage that covers the end of the bones deteriorates, causing a loss of motion as bone rubs on bone. Other forms of arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis, which can affect mostly women, cause the joint lining to become inflamed as well as causing swelling and stiffness.

Tips for preventing arthritis

Fortunately, both you and your Chiropractor can work to prevent these conditions by:

  1. Maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle, including exercising regularly and diet
  2. Keeping the body well hydrated will help to keep cartilage intact and assists with the lubrication of healthy joints
  3. Protect the joints from overuse
  4. Being careful to avoid injuries, which greatly reduces the chance of deterioration

What can a Chiropractor do?

Considering that arthritis is typically joint inflammation, chiropractic care is a sure way to help ease that pain. To ensure that treatment is right for you, our chiropractors will undertake a detailed medical history and perform physical examinations to make an informed decision on what approach to take when treating your arthritis. The chiropractors at Body Focus Chiropractic shine when maximising the function of a joint affected with arthritis and can help put you on the road to recovery. By utilising gentle chiropractor adjustments, we can slowly get your joints back to working order.

The success of treatments will depend on the individual and the techniques being used by our chiropractors. Success is also linked to how long the patient has experienced the symptoms, the amount of degeneration occurring in the patient and on what type of pain the patient is experiencing.
